On July 3, 1903, the Technical Faculty of the Republic was founded by Decree No. 34, creating the Technical Faculty of the Republic. This Technical Faculty gives way to what we know today as the Colegio Federado de Ingenieros y de Arquitectos de Costa Rica (CFIA). CFIA is comprised by the following professional associations: Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles de Costa Rica, CIC; Colegio de Arquitectos de Costa Rica CACR; Colegio de Ingenieros Electricistas, Mecánicos e Industriales de Costa Rica CIEMI; Colegio de Ingenieros Topógrafos de Costa Rica CIT; Colegio de Ingenieros Tecnólogos de Costa Rica CITEC. The CFIA is the body that regulates the professional practice in the different branches of architecture and engineering.
