Coopetarrazú.R.L. is a cooperative located in San Marcos de Tarrazú, in the area of Los Santos, founded on October 13, 1960, by 228 small coffee producers and was born as an alternative to an unfair producer-beneficiary relationship, where the latter imposed the conditions of delivery and price, to the detriment of the smaller ones. The Cooperative is a democratic organization of 4,500 associated members, of which 1,499 are women, with a clear predominance of small farms (less than 2 hectares), which allow the subsistence of the surrounding families. The activity of this organization has been an engine of development in the area, because of the resources it injects into the local economy through payment for coffee, surpluses, salaries, payment of services to third parties, purchase of inputs from suppliers in the area, and the system of monthly advances and pre-settlements has allowed the producer to better organize the administration of financial resources.
