Fonafifo is a public institution, created by Forest Law 7575 in 1996, and is directed by a Board of Directors with representatives of the public and private sectors. We have more than 20 years of experience in Payments for Environmental Services (PES), and in forest development activities including a Credit Program. Since 1997 we have established agreements with organizations to develop forestry projects to compensate the impact of their productive activities, or to achieve environmental objectives. We are authorized by the National Program C-Neutrality to sell Compensation Units of greenhouse gas emissions, we have measurable, verifiable and reportable projects. We also offer an innovative Payment for Environmental Services Project called Bosque Vivo OSA, through which funders support farm owners who protect biodiversity. BV-OSA donors receive information about wildlife records, images and videos that we generate with biological monitoring. All donations that are given to Fonafifo can be applied for recognition in the payment of income tax.
